The GS1 Healthcare Reference Book 2016-2017 was published recently and contains stories of successful implementations of GS1 standards in the Healthcare sector.  The book can be viewed here. 

The article on page 12 references the RFIDMedical patient tracking solution from ASD, previously branded MedRFID, that allows hospitals to track and monitor the movement of patients throughout the hospital and better manage the patient flow.

By assigning an RFID-tagged wristband to the patient it is possible to know how long the patient spends in the hospital including how long they spend in each area.

The article notes that “average patient wait time for a CT scan has been reduced from more than 20 minutes to less than 7 minutes—a 65 percent improvement.”
